Supporting the Implementation of UDL in Secondary Science: Supporting Students to take Climate Action

In our time, there may be no greater topic of importance than climate change. Ensuring that all students have access to learning about the topic is equally important. In this presentation, we will present preliminary findings from the work of a cross-disciplinary Professional Learning Community (PLC) for 11th & 12th grade science teachers and university faculty to design and implement integrative and interdisciplinary learning experiences focused on Climate Action and that align with the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework. We will report findings from the feedback and Cycles of Inquiry and analysis of student work demonstrating the impact of newly developed classroom experiences on student engagement, learning, and participation.

Thank you for this presentation. I really enjoyed how you gave us a road map as to how to do this at our institution with our instructors. As far as barriers, I would say time. What if the instructors do not have 10 days of PD available to them. Can this be done during the school year on top of the regular workload? What do you recommend?
